RIP CURL AVALANCHE CAMP JASNA 2009
Blue skies, sun, and fresh white powdery snow... You are in the right place at the right time. You are standing high on the slope, above the chute, and despite your respect for the white mass, the temptation called „first line“ is greater than anything in the world. And you ask yourself: “Is everything OK? Is it worth it?”
If you have experienced these feelings and you love skiing away from tame ski slopes, in deep powder snow – we invite you to join the Freedown weekend avalanche camp in Jasná - the freeriding Mecca. The main themes of the camp include theory of snow and avalanches, on the spot practicing, and a backcountry tour under the direction of experienced mountain guides and avalanche specialists in the Low Tatras freeride zones.
Behind the concept of Freedown Avalanche Camps stand snowboarder Jana Šeďová and skier Majo Ligda, who in 2005 organised the first avalanche camp in Slovakia dedicated to the freeriding scene - Pogo Avalanche Camp Jasná 2005. They were motivated mainly by their friends who ended up covered by an avalanche, and by their own experience with the white mass. In 2006, two terms of the camp took place, and it took the name Freedown. It represents the idea of an ideal freeriding day – riding in deep powder snow followed by a happy return down to the valley, to a warm lodge.
PROGRAM:
Friday
8 p.m. registration, accommodation
7 - 10 p.m. workshop about snow and avalanches (meteorological conditions and topography, conditions which lead to avalanches, judgement of snow stability, decision-making startegies, movement through avalanche terrain, avalanche rescue techniques - self-rescue, rescue of a friend, the first aid)
Saturday
9 a.m. - 1 p.m. training of presented topics in terrain (Spravodlivá, Májová mulda, Derešský kotol)
2 - 4 p.m. theory, looking for information on the Internet
9 p.m. party
Sunday
9 a.m. - 3 p.m. backcountry, knowledge verification on a backcountry hike (official freeride zones in Jasná, mountain pass Poľana, Ďumbier)
Avalanche camp price 11O EUR (3313,86 Sk) includes a specialist seminar and training in the terrain with mountain guides, a two-day ticket to the ski-lifts at Jasná centre, rental of avalanche equipment (avalanche tracker, probe, shovel), special insurance for Mountain Rescue Service interventions, an avalanche card, and an evening barbecue.
Accommodation in Hotel Liptov, Jasná for 17 EUR (512,142) / night + half board.
The maximum number of participants in one camp is 30, one mountain guide per eight participants, which guarantees quality and an individual approach.
